So why not use the free boxes from the grocery store? Well, the free ones aren’t really all that free – they’re going to cost you time and money.

It’s been estimated that for a couple moving out of a four room apartment, the number of moving boxes needed is thirty five. That’s four rooms in total – not a four bedroom place!

Think about the time that would have to be spent travelling around and between stores collecting quality boxes that you’d be confident would protect your valuables – fragile or not, from the inevitable thumps, bumps, scrapes and drops that come with even the best managed moves.

Grocery store boxes are designed primarily to hold rather than protect. They are designed mostly to be single use disposable wrappers. They are most often made of light cardboard and once emptied of their contents are weak and flimsy.

The boxes that you pay for however are designed specifically for the job of moving. They are constructed of heavy cardboard that can be used over and over again. They are also sized uniformly for more efficient packing and storing, which is important when moving costs are based on time and volume.

Box manufacturers have relied on feedback from moving companies to ensure that changing customer needs are adequately met by providing a range of boxes for all conceivable customer needs.
